History
Redruth’s history is deeply tied to the Cornish mining industry. The town was home to many of the inventors and engineers who shaped the industrial revolution, including William Murdoch — the inventor of gas lighting — who was born in Redruth.
The surrounding landscape is dotted with engine houses and mining monuments, forming part of the Cornwall and West Devon Mining Landscape UNESCO World Heritage Site.
